Oil seals
« on: 11 September 2010, 11:48:42 »

Hi guys, I've got a serious oil leak and am changing a few seals this week to try and cure it and was just wondering if anybody had any experience/problems/tips for any of the jobs im doing. The oil leak seems to be coming down the front of the engine(2001 2.2) and collecting on the tray at the bottom. I'm planning on changing the rocker cover gasket, camshaft seals and crankshaft seal. I'm losing about 1ltr a week.
Also i've read on previous threads about a vauxhall black sealant you can use on the rocker cover gasket to go where it bridges over the cams, anybody got a part number as my local dealership haven't heard of it. I've changed this gasket before to cure oil leaking into the spark plug wells and that was cured, but thinking maybe it could be now leaking from the front? Anybody know what torque the bolts on the rocker cover should be tightened down to?
Alot of questions i know but am trying to cover every angle to try and cure the leak, so any comments would be appreciated.
Many thanks in advance!!

I'm sure you've already found a guide or two with this info in, but it never hurts to repeat it.

Black sealant for selected spots on camcover seal:
Part Number - 90485251.

Torque for camcover fixings - 8Nm.

If I were you,  if you haven't already, I'd whip off the front cambelt cover and have a good look around before you do anything else.  May need to clean stuff up a bit, but it may be immediately obvious where the leak is coming from.

Good luck.  :y
