On the ECU backplate there are two spade connectors on a small black component (switch)
or sensor ? anyone know what it does ??

not sure but i think its a thermal fuse?

Thanks,  one of the spades has broken off. doesn't seem to make any difference, but wanted to know what it is.

Looks like it to me. I wonder if it's to activate the cooling fan for models so equipped?

I believe in hotter climates, there is a fan to keep air circulating around the ECU.

I could however be very wrong  ;D

I'll have a look tomorrow, though I don't remember seeing any fans near the ecu.

Who would have thought that in tropical climate up here.

It was lovely when I was up there in early September. Bet it's changed for the worse by now! ;)

And yes, some models have a fan to cool the ECU box. Only think I can think of. :-/

Fan for cooling the ECU/fuse box lives against the 'A' piller under the passenger front wing, and blows air via a tube to the fusebox. Had them on all 3 of the omega's I have had (MV6, 2.5 V6 and TD)

Just looked on our (2.0/16V ultimate base model) car - whilst looking for the non-existent fan test connector -  and there is just such a temperature switch, and it's wired up (one brown wire, one brown with blue trace).

It can't be to switch on any ECU cooling fan though, because there is no air ducting whatever into the triangular box.  Maybe if it registers that the ECU is too hot it brings on the main (only on ours) rad fan?  :-/

Might have a browse at the wiring diagrams if I get bored later...

Pretty certain its a temp sensor.  I had one you could of had until last night (gave the ECU away)...

Ah well, it's the thought that counts.   :y

Just had another look. Can't see any air pipes going into the box. If, with ign on, I short the connections I hear a relay click on. Can't determine which one. Had to give up, Bl&&dy church bells 30yds away, can't believe someone would go an die while I'm trying to fix this.
