2.5 TD Boost ajustment screw??
« on: 02 October 2010, 12:48:41 »

hey,

I remember reading on here a few weeks back something along the lines of "turn the boost ajustment screw in by1 turn at a time and your turbo will boost up sooner, but dont go too far with it or engine goes bang"

Does this refer to the actuator control rod's ajustable end piece or is there another point of ajustment somewhere else that i haven't spotted??? :-?

thats it, on the wastegate actuator.

Need a live data reading to adjust it - the scope probably isn't that great. By default, it goes up to 2.0 bar (atmospheric + 1bar). Not sure I'd want to wind it up much more than about 2.1-2.2bar

Omegatoy wound his up a bit, can't remember how far he went. He has a Tech1, so can read what it goes to.  He has an intercooler fan permemently wired (via a switch), which helps keep intake temps down when doing this.

cool im planning on putting a fan on mine at some point, plus a chip is in the post... ;D

i got a boost gauge rigged up atm so that gives me an idea but im guessing i really want to be monitoring intake temps?

might have a little play at some point just gotta be careful.

2.1-2.2bar that must be about atmospheric+17 psi?

also would it come on boost sooner, as thats the idea I got from what i read

LOL its ok upping the boost this way had mine a little to high at one time(2.7bar)!!intake temps are not really a problem with i.c. fan but i would be a little worried about the egt as we cannot measure this on tech1 or tech2  but you must remember it will only boost high untill the wastegate catches up with it? but you can keep it on the boil pretty easily, be warned though with high boost its a bastard to put it down on the road without a LSD and if you have done a few miles on the clutch then chip it and up the boost the clutch will retire early!! not a problem to change  but i got no warning car had done 84k when i chipped it and within 200 miles the clutch started slipping so i couldnt use the boost!!! only ust got it home before it gave up completely!!

hoofing it

I done mine through feel.
I adjusted a little at a time until I was happy with the point the turbo kicks in and my IC is hard wired to ignition :y

Hmm not a bad idea, but how long has it been like this? my original i.c fan lasted just under 4 years with only using it when i needed it, constant running would think you would be wse to get hold of a spare one!! the motor isnt exactly a quality piece of engineering!!! how is your fuel consumption?

well as it happens i had a new clutch 3k miles ago so thats not much concern, might think about an lsd sometime i gather they are easy enough to get hold of/fit??? got the feeling that would help slow me down wrecking tyres  :D :D

i.c. fan- i got the ones infront of the rad off my old GLS but will they fit?? is there a thread here for fitting? cant help but feel that they are a bit on the chunky side..
Also, would it be possible to rig up some kind of temp switch to the intercooler or something so it would come on automatically on demand?? :-?
