I carry a lot of stuff around in the boot (bags of cement, tile glue and so on and have to negotiate some pretty awful obstacles (speed humps and uneven roads). I also tow loads of up to 750kg with a nose weight of 75Kg approx. Witter low slung towbar doesn't help either.

I am thinking of getting a pair of spring assisters (e.g.Grayston GE15 or Brocott 5).

What is the car like without any load? Are they any good? Fitting tips? Anyone got some they want rid off?

An Elite's self levellers should be capable of sorting that kind of load ..... assuming it's still fitted.

yeah, self levelling can cope with a 1,500kg burger van on its tail, so heavy boot should not be an issue for it. Assuming you've not put cheapo non-self levelling shocks in?

Ahh true its the ball joint / nose weight which is key i think?

Yes the car still has working (after a fashion) self levelling.  I am probably the only person on the forum that wishes my car had more ground clearance.  Two giant local speed humps can only be negotiated diagonally with or without a lot of load.

  Ok. I'll try taking a run at the speed humps tomorrow with sacks of animal feed etc. Might be on tomorrow night asking about sumpguards etc.

I have a spare set of estate springs here for the rear? however they will make the saloon a very firm ride without anything in the boot!!!
and will probably raise the rear of the car by a good couple of inches!!!

Got Monroe Ride Levellers and Grayston Coil Spring Assisters on mine.

I don't know what types you are looking at but I've run rubber insert type assisters on my estate for some years, no great detriment and helps the clearance...I could believe that after a few years they will start to soften a bit and lose effectiveness.

I pull a caravan and everything including the kitchen sink goes in the back of the estate on hols. I used  to have self-levelling but it gave up (vauxhall Dealers unable to find the fault suggesting replacing it all) I put a pair of MAD supplimentary springs in mine. They come with a top and bottom locating bush (different) which I only discovered after fitting one side. So out it came. The supp. springs are simply wound through the existing springs and sit in the centre of the existing springs. Taking the shocks off 1st is good because you can drop the swinging arm lower. And as I was replacing the self-levelling ones anyway no prob. I did put heavy duty shocks on, which along with the supp. springs does give a firmish ride, I think standard shocks would have been better. The car now sits good and high with plenty of space showing between the tyre and the wheel arch even in full holiday loading.

I've got heavy duty rear springs on mine bought from buypartsby + M.A.D. spring assisters, it's raised the rear end about 2", caravan tows level.

Don't notice any particular difference to the ride, bit firmer on the back that's all.

Clears speed bumps without catching the jockey wheel.
