Misfire
« on: 20 October 2010, 21:37:34 »

Had a flashing emissions light for under 30 seconds...

checked the codes, and had a 300, 303 304

so random missfire along with pots 3 and 4.

Any ideas for a cause as these are on opposite sides?

has been very cold here today, and the car had been started twice and moved just a couple of yards each time during the day.

imo ignition.. connections may not conduct electricity properly or some moisture..but I'm sure its electrical..  and it will be ok after warm up..

aye, moisture / condensation was my guess.

just the pots confused me, would have expected 2 on one side rather than one on each

Sorry, I dont go with the moisture theory, the setup is mega water tight and it takes little time for that area to get warm.

Plus, both banks at the same time is MUCH to much of a coincidence.

Hence I suspect air supply as its common to both banks and hence the MAF question

I wonder if it fouled a plug or two when it was being shunted around?

I have had mine misfiring after similar abuse. It does seem to throw a lot of fuel in for the first few seconds after a start in very cold weather, and if it isn't run for long enough to purge it between starts... :-/

See if it recurs, I guess.

Will certainly keep a close eye, hope that MAF is fine, wasnt cheap..

The 2 moves were a car length this morning, when the car was icy, and then the car length back again a few hours later...
then a few hours before the next start where the light flashed immediately.

Can you get live data out of it and check MAF reading at idle when warm? Also have a look at the fuel trims? That should confirm the MAF is OK.

apparently a very common call out for recovery firms at Christmas when a car might be moved a few feet to let a family member move their car and then the same again a few days later .... all 'on choke'

my old rover 827 would do that, start it cold and move it a few feet and switch off and if you tried to star it again it would be a bitch to start but if left a few hours then no problem
