vauxhall omega 2.2dti elite poor idling problems
« on: 25 October 2010, 20:31:00 »

ok newby here so pls be a bit gentle with me.
my omega 2.2dti y22dth is driving me up the wall!
firstly, it has a snapped glow plug and an easy out on top of that and has been like that for 12 months after my so called mechanic friend had an episode! car ran fine, no probs.
recently car ran a bit lumpy so changed mass air sensor and all hell broke loose, emisions light came on and would only go off after reving the engine for a moment, thought about it and removed the egr valve and cleaned, still same problem! cleaned breather system pipes but havent got round to removing intake manifold to clean, think it has 2 butterflys inside?.
the car is running very poor with eratic idling when started from cold and takes a good thrash for 5 mins and then all is fine, emisions light goes out and car runs normally, i have noticed a puff of smoke from engine from below the alternator when its idling funny.
im not a mechanic but love my omega to bits and really hope that someone can throw a few ideas on this for me as vauxhall garages seem to know very little usefull information!
thanks in advance for any responces
cheers
pete

Didn't know any of the diesels had breather pipes  :-/   not familiar with the 2.2

How does it run if you disconnect the MAF ?

i think it has breather pipes as it has a pipe that goes from the crank case to the turbo? replaced mass air sensor and had terrible problems with idling, tried putting the old one back in and car wouldnt rev more than 3000 revs while plumes of smoke pouring out the back, wish id just left it be to be honest but im a fidler and can learn how to fix these things without buggering them up first, very little info on the 2.2dti y22dth engine, the car has done 182k but used to run sweet as a nut

runs fine without the maff , also the idling stops playing up if i disconect the hose from the egr to the unit it connects to,
have tested the egr and cant blow or suck through the hose so im guesing the membrane inside is still ok

Just a suggestion, as I say I'm not familiar with the 2.2.
Block off the EGR permanently and try another Maf sensor, I suspect you have replaced your original maf with another faulty one.
Maybe someone with more experience of the 2.2 will comment.
