Very noisy front brake
« on: 26 October 2010, 20:33:35 »

Hello, had new front brake pads fitted and the offside when braking after a few miles makes a loud screeching noise. It's been looked at by the garage that fitted them but they say that they can't find anything wrong. There is also a ring of rust on the outer side of the disc, as if the pads aren't making contact. Any thoughts, thanks.

Could be that the pads are not of good quality or that one brake is getting hot due to binding, next time after you have driven the car check the wheel hub temperature and see if one is warmer than the other :y

It might be caused by brake dust from cheap pads or it may be you have a slightly warped disk, or a sticking piston in the caliper. Give it a couple of days to see if they bed in a bit better & as said by henry, check the hub for excess temperature  :y

That's how they should be, it's this unworn ridge that tends to wear though the sensor early.  ;)

Loud screech can also just be poorly fitted pads. If they used the wrong grease, cheap, it all heats up and U get pad wobble in the caliper hence screech

Just a thought

Plus the usual check for stones etc. See if the pad contact patch is going glazed, this is a sign of over-heating or pad contamination (such as grease as already mentioned) All this could be temporary as the pads bed in. but if theres contamination, best to find out sooner than later.
