Clutch slipping..????
« on: 30 October 2010, 11:43:55 »

I had the clutch changed on my 2000 FL MV6 in Sept last year..  since then the power delivery has being stalled..  i,e it drives like an auto when it is a manual..  buy means of when i put my foot down the engine revs then drops as the clutch kicks in.. (just like on a auto)..

is this normal or do i have a underlying problem..??

Have a look underneath to see if there is any oil or fluid dripping from the bottom of the gearbox bell housing. Also have a feel down the back of the heads to see if any oil is running down from the cam covers.  :y

If the cam covers are leaking at the half-moons at the back of the head they will allow oil to run down through where the clutch is. May also be the crank oil seal behind the clutch leaking. This would make the clutch slip as you have described :y

Me ;D ;D Well not stock them but can get them and fit them :y

If you can get the front end up on axle stands and check the rubber bungs in the gearbox to see if there is any oil in the bell housing.

Did they fit the correct clutch plate? if they fitted a 2.5 plate it might be slipping in your engine. I had a brand new 2.5 plate slipping on my cd so changed it to a 3l plate no further problems. :y

Same clutch throughout the range, more likely the fitter at fault ;)

No the 3l has a larger diameter clutch plate than the 2.5l but both will fit the 3l has a larger surface area for friction.
