I searched for this but got no results.

Has anyone tried running a 2.2 dti cars on veg oil. I know some diesels will run on 100% veg oil, some will run on a mixture of diesel and veg oil and some blow the fuel pump cause the veg oil is too thick when cold.

A mate of mine used to run his old 1.7 izuzu engined astra on 100% and it had no issues

I really wouldn't they only have an injector pump.

I wouldn't waste your time running veg as most garages now have 7% bio-fuel added to diesel.
Shell and BP have 100% diesel and its about 125p a litre.

Heard the old BMW lump being a more 'basic' kind of engine can be run on manky old chipfat without any real trouble, but the DTi is a 'modern' generation engine doesnt like it one little bit!

Please dont read this as a guarantee you can pour old oil with bits of potato peel in it in your fuel tank! I am NOT responsible for the consequences!

Friend of mine has been running his 2.2Dti on a veg/diesel mix for .. I don't know how many tens of thousands of miles now without any issues at all..

my personal opinion is that any "additives" should be of the same viscosity as diesel.ie should be warmed with a coolant/electrical heater before introduction to the fuel system.

Yes. A veg/diesel mix is fine, but I wouldnt recommend running a 'modern' generation Diesel on 100% chip fat. Older engines you can get away with it, Im sure oosomeone did a run to/from grimsby a couple of years ago, maybe a 5th gear episode. They did it with an old banger of a 190E Merc, just to prove the point.

Again, I return back to my original disclaimer, I'm not saying go out of do it on your own car, definitely look into it further/wait for someone else to have done it and learn by their mistakes!

I had no intention of running it on 100%, 50/50 in the winter and 80% in summer cause it's warmer is what I was hoping for.

Apparently it is mostly to do with fuel pump failure due to the veg oil being heavier, some makes are ok some arn't.

I'll look into this further

And you will need to have a supply of fuel filters as the veg oil clogs them up regular.
If you run veg get a good 2 stroke oil and add about 50ml per full tank this should lubricate the fuel pump/injectors

I don't think Mark goes that high on his Dti - I seem to recall 20/80 veg/diesel, but I could be wrong.  But then he does no special servicing - it gets the Vx service intervals and that's it..

Have run my 2.5td for 30k on veg oil and recycled veg oil with NO issues.
Veg oil will NOT block any filters etc except for when first used as the veg oil dissolves the diesel sludge that you may have. It is recommended a single filter change after about about 1k miles.
Veg oil either straight, recycled or proper processed to biodesiel standards requires no additives as veg oil is a better lubricant than diesel. In fact normal diesel has to have lubricant added to it!
Having said that i run with 10% old hydraulic oil from where i work as it is free. My 2.5td runs perfectly on  a mix of hydraulic oil and 100% bio diesel. This results in sub 80p per litre motoring
Cant comment on the 2.2dti though but ask your local supplier or google it!

used to run my transit on veg oil, but there were certain pumps which it would take down the seals, i think it was the lucas pumps but can't say for sure

yes, lucas/delphi pumps are not suitable - infact they a very delicate anyway - not to be trusted

That is very interesting. My brother runs two vehicles exclusively on recycled oil. He does  process it with his homemade still  and adds something to it - can't remember what.(£50 in parts - more if bought complete off Ebay) . He had a problem shortly after starting which was exactly as you say.That was on his Peugeot 1.9 diesel engined vehicle. (He doesn't rate the 2.0l at al) Ever since no issues. Plenty of places in Britain to obtain an good supply of free used oil. You just need to put your self out. Many a time I wished I had bought a 2.5 diesel Omega.

The Tractor pump is a bosch r515(2.5td)
