automatic gearbox
« on: 10 November 2010, 21:23:15 »

Hello all, great to join the forum.
I have a w reg 2.5v6 elite and lately i have been having issues with my automatic gearbox which i need help with....
After about 30 miles or so when you accelerate the revs go up to about 4000 and the car wont change up a gear, it then manages to do so with a jolt and then on the dash display it comes up with automatic gearbox, and the car then appears to be in some sort of safe mode and there is little power. if you stop and restart the car it goes away.
anyome got any ideas of what it might be and how i would get it resolved?  is it a cheap or expensive fix?

Cheers Ben :-/

Welcome to OOF  :)

Any autogearbox fault the first thing to do is check the fluid level .. properly !!

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152783586

Read that link and follow it EXACTLY ...  :)

Then see if things improve !!

If, when you first undo the level plug, the fluid that comes out is dark brown/almost black it might be worth considering a partial fluid change as the existing stuff is not in good condition ..... that procedure is a tad longer and very messy ....  :(

Firsth thing to check is the gearbox oil level mate :y

When you have the car at running temperature ( have a drive out) jack the car up on the drivers side, put an axle stand underneath, pop out the filling/level plug. Put an oil pan on the floor then drop the car down to level ground. If no oil comes out jack back up and fill it up, then drop down again until the oil stops running out :y

P.s leave the car runing all the time you do this job, so watch you dont burn your Pinkies on the exhaust :y

In addition to the above,

Do the LED indicators by the gear stick accurately follow the stick position at all times or do they go out, flicker or show the wrong selection?

Selector switch can cause issues, especially if the car has been driven through standing water.

Failing that, a check for gearbox codes with a tech 2 would be useful.

Filter and ATF change cured the same symptoms on my 3.2 --a big thank you to DLK for that.
