AB Bloody S TC Bloody computer?
« on: 13 November 2010, 17:25:14 »

Hi and sorry for all the bloodys! i suspect my abs ecu is up the swanny! for weeks it has been cutting in and out.  the speedo goes off when the abs/tc lights show!  Also the steering seems to go stiff.  Now it just dont work all the time!!!!.  Is it the case the ecu is undef***able.  Is this linked to the power ateering and is it easier to change the whole modulator or just the ecu?
Thanks

Yep, its sounds like the ABS ECU and its easier to replace just the ECU ;)

3 options really ....

Dealer new ECU ... around £700 I believe ... :(

Repair existing ECU ... around £130 @ bba-reman

2nd hand from a breaker .. but MUST be same engine/gearbox and spec ....  ??

I went with option 2 .... never regretted it   :)

You don't say where you are but if you are in the Midlands then there is a spot in Nottingham that also do ecu repairs.

The job is a lot fiddly and requires patience. I have done mine twice in the last five years. There is a good guid in the mintenance guides section (one of the very early pages).

If post 1998, yes, ecu :(

Best option is ecu only.

If you change whole modulator, and get air in it, you will be up shitcreek.
