That is one of the bst at that age I have seen

LPG should add at least another £500 on that

I agree completely, which is why I'm more than willing to pay more for an LPG'd car (I've had a few). Even DIYing a decent multi-point kit costs in the region of £800, and I'd bet the vast majority of people don't have the skills and tools etc you have to do the whole install themselves, so in reality they'll probably end up paying big bucks for a pro install (the one on my car was £1800 for example).

When you consider that, compared with an equivalent petrol model, I save around 10p/mile running on gas, it's obvious why it's so attractive to those of us where money is an issue. Let's face it if money was no object we wouldn't be driving around in cars worth less than £2k ;). So an average driver doing 12k a year saves ~£1200. Not to be sniffed at!

I don't really get the opposition to it, unless you actually like giving the chancellor even more of your hard earned than you have to. And yes, as stated propane is actually a better road fuel than petrol for several reasons, one being that it vapourises naturally (none of the pseudo-vapourisation of petrol by atomisation etc) so you get a more complete combustion, less contamination of the oil, not to mention less crap out of the exhaust. An engine purely designed to run on propane could run higher compression and more advance = more power. Yes the calorific value is slightly lower, but that just means you need a bit more fuel for the same energy output. If you want a highly calorific fuel get a diesel ;).

If I start doing high mileage again, I will certainly be looking to buy another dual-fuel car.

This is the reason i converted mine, i only wish i had done it earlier as this would have saved me more money.

Like James i would have paid to have mine converted had i not been able to do it myself, and whist i was having issues with it there were time when i wished i had paid someone to do it for me, now i have completed it i would do another but slightly differently next time.

There is a whoe argument as to how much LPG kits add to the cars value, at the least i would say £500 if it is a certified install

Cheers guys, I agree completely. The only reason I'm selling this car is that my mileage has dropped to 4-5000 per year, so paying road tax, insurance, MOT, servicing, etc... for 2 or 3 cars just doesn't make sense any more. When I was doing a lot of mileage, the savings from having the LPG'd Omega more than made up for the cost of running it compared to using my BMW which does 18 MPG.

I came very close to selling the BMW in the summer, even had several people make me offers on it. The plan was to keep the Omega for another few years. But I had a change of heart and decided to stick with the BMW as it's a lot of fun and is very distinct, even if it is rather expensive to run.

If and when I end up commuting again, I sure as hell won't be using the BMW though, with petrol over £1/litre now that would be crazy. So I reckon I'll be back in the market for a dual fuel car within a few years. Unless I can avoid the commuter trap which is probably wishful thinking.

In its favour, it is LPG, and it is manual (and if you want a manual, there is generally less choice for retail MV6s).

The manual will have a small premium if that is what you have set your heart on, due to the lower choices.

The LPG, on that sort of mileage, will have less of a premium, as there is less 'cheap running' left in the car.

Its value will, as stated above, but a compromise on what the seller wants and what buyers are prepared to pay.
