Heater problem (cool air)
« on: 12 November 2010, 10:28:22 »

I have a 2000 3 litre Omega Elite with a heating problem. Looking at the other threads, I have flushed the heater matrix and replaced the HBV. Once the engine is up to its running temperature, about 90-95 deg, both pipes which serve the heater matrix are red hot. When I select any temperature on the climate control, the heater blower works perfectly, but all I get is luke warm air flow.

I have changed the control panel which houses the cabin temperature sensor, but have noticed no improvement.

Is there a flap which controls heat into the box from the matrix and where is located (easiest way to get to)

Advice welcome!

To confirm, are the 2 pipes running to the matrix are hot?

The "in & out" pipes to the matrix can be hot, but the actual matrix itself may be cool/luke warm.. this is because the waterways inside the matrix are tiny and block easily, thus there is no "flow" inside the matrix .. just at the edges.

Soutions ...

Try disconnecting the matrix and "reverse" flushing
Descale/clean the matrix using "fernox" (central heating cleanser) or similar
Replace matrix

Whilst replacing the HBV, I added bars flush, ran for a few days and then flushed the whole system by connecting a hose to the various pipes.

I got good flow through the matrix pipes, so I believe the matrix ought to be running at the required temperature (though without touching the matrix itself, I couldn't confirm that).

Yes, both pipes serving the matrix are as hot as any other pipe in the system when touched.

You may well have full bore flow through the matrix & it will still be blocked enough to prevent adequate heat transfer! See the links  :y

Please, my friends, someone tell me :

HOW can I remove the air distribution system ????

1. Can I do it WITHOUT discharging the aircon system ?

2.  I removed 2 screws in the engine compartment, and 1 inside the car, but its legs seem to be stuck because of the wiring below. What else am I to do in order to free this thing ?
Please helpppppppppppppppp (with pictures)....:)
It's an MV6.
