Question Regarding Air Intake pipe (cold feed)
« on: 25 November 2010, 09:50:20 »

The air intake pipe that is a 'J' type shape (that sits in front on the radiator) can this be improved?

The end of the pipe points upwards, wouldn't it be better if it pointed forwards (like the pipe on the Vectra C 3.2 v6)?

I have heard of people with Astras taking the Vectra C pipe and installing it on their Astras, maybe something like this is possible for the Omega?
Here are some pictures:

Or maybe the Omega's pipe can be cut/modified to allow more air in?

I was just curious, as It's the first time I've seen an intake pipe pointing sidewards and not forwards.

I have often thought that something like that might be an improvement. It would have air forced into it rather than just catching air which happens to be passing by.
Ram air certainly has very positive effects on motorcycle engines. :y

A turbo is even better, but first port of call on 3.0l is exhaust manifolds...  ...you can force as much air in as you like, but that air has to be able to get out....

The air is sucked into the engine quite forcefully and I don't think you'd get much more in by adjusting the angle of the intake pipe, also you may risk water ingress...

Yep, current pipe is already in a high pressure zone due to being in front of a restrictive radiator, with the advantage that it's at 90 degrees to the rain!

Not that ram air makes a significant difference until well into 3 figures.. probably further into 3 figures than an Omega will actually go!
