Plenum removel help. Dam electrical connector.
« on: 26 November 2010, 20:14:14 »

In the midst of doing my cam cover gaskets. All has gone well so far, except that I can't remove the electrical connector at the back of the plenum  >:(

I've tried squeezing the two metal clips together and pulling, even trying to pry it off with a screwdriver, but to no avail. Things aren't helped by the fact that there is hardly any room to get my fingers in.

Any ideas or tips fellas?

Cheers.

Leave it to the very last thing you do before you remove the plenum. Just lift the plenum and move it forward, you can reach the plug easily then. Push it in slightly, squeeze the metal tabs and pull :y

I struggle with those clips too.

If I can't squeeze hard enough to release the clip I usually take it right off. (Put it back on again before reassembly)

I agree I also had similar problems removing this connector and also the idle valve one which also has the wire connector lock.

On each of these I used a jewelers screwdriver to remove the wire from the connector, so the connector easily pulled away from the plug, but it was sometime before I reconnected these due to the time it was before I did my engine rebuild, I had forgotten how the wire went on the connector so I used one for the ram air system to remind me. Therefore, I would suggest if you use this method to ease the wire off the connector that you rebuild the connector immediately after removal or take a photo before you remove it.

If you remove the wire to unplug the connector, I found it very easy to replace the wire, so the connector locks again.

I hope this is of help.

Remove plenum, then tackle the plug as said.
