couple of how to questions
« on: 02 December 2010, 06:47:36 »

1. I want to  refurbish my door cards and my facelift driver door card has the storage compartiment(just under the el windows commands) a little snapped, its lower and the button its useless becasue it doesn't clip it, and its also inestetic. How can i remove it from the door card because i would like to try and repair it, or get another door card from brakers and transplant from it.

2. I want to retrofit a auto dim mirror but from what i could sort out in hillpers guide it is also electronicly adjustable. if i install it will i be able to adjust it manualy? i remember on my old astra that whatever i wanted to retrofit there was a wire hanging there just w8ing for me to plug. isn't there a plug there for the auto diping mirror so that i won't cut into the sunroof plug? what if i didn't had plug?
how does a normal auto dim mirror adjust??

The only awkward part to removing the ugly (inestetic) door card is finding the hidden screw which is under/behind the catch for the storage compartment, you need to remove the plastic 'cap'.

The auto dip rearview mirror doesn't adjust electronically, it just 'remembers' the position that you manually set it to. It will return to it's remembered position when using the 1, 2, or 3 buttons.

thank you brickhead for your answer but at the first you mush have misunderstood me. i was asking if there is a way to remove the pocket on the door card :). here is a picture for it:

is there any chance i might finde the auto dim mirror loom already there and not have to modify the sunroof wires?

The door card needs removing first, then you will see that the storage compartment is 'plastic riveted' to the door card. The 'rivets' can be carefully snapped off but then you will have to glue the replacement storage compartment back on.
I'd just replace the whole door card.

yup its better/easier to replace doorcards, maybe go for an upgrade to leather, to go with the leather seats you will eventually want  ;) :y
as for the wiring have a look behind the map/curtesty light  :y

Nope but, it really is easy to wire if you ignore the reversing light feed (which you could argue is optional anyway)

i already have leather seats.. quite special ones with perforated leather in the middle, its visible on the door card also. from what i understand i understand i can't really replace the pocket :(. at least i learned that some users here in romania cleaned them with paint thiner than repainted them and dot rid of all that scratching.

about the mirror i found a socket there hanging around

That plug is for the autodim mirror that is used with the rain sensor. You can use that for "plug & play" but you need a mirror like this

The plug in your photo connects directly to the mirror. The connector for the rain sensor is totally separate. As said in my previous post, the Omega`s with the rain sensor had a different mirror with a built-in mount (oblong base stuck to screen with a pad) then a plastic shroud (shown in my pics) to cover the mirror mount and the rain sensor. From your photo I can`t see another plug that would enable the rain sensor but if you could obtain the same mirror as the photo it`s plug & play

then the question is if i buy your mirror will it fit perfectly with all the plastics into my car? i don't like gaps and the prefacelift one looks the same as the one i have right now. i am asking because yours sounds like a fit and just plug it in but i wouldn't like any open spaces that won't be covered on the windshield. if someone could post a pic on how it looks on a rain sensor car i might get an ideea :)
