Oil Capacity for X30XE 3.0Ltr Please.
« on: 04 December 2010, 10:01:57 »

How much oil do I need to buy for an oil change on my 1999T 3.0Ltr Elite?

Can anyone recommend a decent oil/offer price please.

I take it I can get the filter from a VX dealer?

Many thanks.

Paul.

I'm not 100% sure but usually 5.5 litres is needed.
Stick 5 in and wait for it to settle then check the dipstick.
One litre will raise the level from the minimum mark to the maximum...

if you have trade club, GM's 10/40 Semi Syth on 4 for 3 on 5L bottles, its about £33 + vat for 20L

V6 takes 5.5 to fill  :y

Book says 5.5l, but I reckon its slightly less. Either way, more than 5l.

It is worth getting access to tradeclub (see www.tradeclub.co.uk) to get very good discounts on genuine GM oil and filters - buy 4 x 5l cans and it works out a shade over a tenner for a 5l can on GM 10/40W Semi synth, and around £2 for old type filter, and around £4 for new type. Fuel filters and air filters get good discounts. And the GM Omega air filter is about the best air filter for your car, far better than most patterns, or so-called 'performance' filters.

If you are not in the motor trade, you can access tradeclub for £20 per year by joining www.autobahnstormers.co.uk

More likely that you are not getting ALL the old oil out.

That is a fair point, even when you leave the engine draining with both the drain plug and oil filter off for some time.  Oil does still stick around the components and in the head(s). ;) ;)

Or maybe the book is from dry ;)

You'll never get all the oil out of any system...  ...the V6 heads will retain a good cupful, posible more, it its webbing...

Thanks for that Tunnie. Sounds about right, my Sprinter and 320CDI are 25nm. My (son's) golf is hand tighten though.

Or pm andyc for mail order, although the weight of items may prohibit that?

Filter cap can be a right pain to remove. Have a bar ready for the end of the ratchet IMO.
