Oil and filter change next then  :(

I am sure there was a how to but I can't find it despite several searches. (Although I can probably figure it out easily enough, the guides often warn of 'gotchas' before I rediscover them. :) )

Also, do I need to change the filter or clean it? how much oil is needed? Opie oils likely the best supplier? Gasket set required?
Any help with these questions would be much appreciated  8-)

Gaskets and filter:

Oil  Dexron III  Capacity is 9ltr but you should get away with 5ltr as some will remain in the TC.

Thanks for all of your help so far guys.
I was going to grovel underneath and struggle with axle stands, umbrella etc but have decided to use a local small repair/service workshop. It will be an hour's work for him on the 4 post lift. He is quite happy to collect on his pick up too, so won't need to limp it over there.

If the worst outcome should present itself, then I will need to source a (hopefully known good) replacement box. I will check out the parts section for a suitable replacement.

I am assuming that mine is an AR25 (not checked tbh), but if an AR35 is available, is it a straight swap or do I need to change ecu/loom/switch etc? Also, would anything else need reprogramming?

Really? I've not heard anybody say that before (on the forum I mean!) Can anybody confirm this?

Re: Help! Autobox drive Intermittent - Update
« Reply #20 on: 04 December 2010, 11:43:09 »

Hi All,
Thought I'd give a little feedback. I have now had a replacement box (thanks to Daz for supplying and delivering - niice bloke  :y) and car is up and running ok.
Just to recap, the problem was a loss of drive, which oil change and filter clean had failed to resolve.

I re-used my loom and torque converter so the problem was defo inside the box proper - possibly a failing pump?

Just as a footnote when first fitted, the gearbox put the car into limp mode with the spanner light on. (This was something that I'd had many times intermittently over the last couple of years. It turned out to be a bad connection on one of the gearbox loom connectors, and not obvious just needed re-making.

Car has been running fine for last week and a half with no problems. (hasn't improved mpg though  :( )
