White Gunk!
« on: 07 December 2010, 13:31:54 »

Hi i have noticed that inside the oil filler cap there is a white residue on underside of cap  and in filler neck not loads just a small amount i have no temperature issues or water loss and she runs just fine doesnt miss a beat, i looked at a friends omega who also has a 2.5 and his is also gunked up infact considerably more than mine! again he said its normal and has no running issues or water loss.
So is it normal?
is there a way to stop it?
is it bad for the engine?
im guessing it is just condesation build up if so would drilling a small whole 2mm in centre of cap release the moisture obviously i would take the cap out to drill it lol ?

Dunno just cant help thinking its not good for the engine?
any ideas ???????????????

Hello, the gunk build up is perfectly normal, normally a result of the breather system starting to block. There's a guide for this in the maintenance section. Does it have a leak from the rocker gaskets? Is number one plug lead wet (I call the front drivers side lead number 1, whether correctly or not!)??  :y

Hello Rob, the 'gunk' is emulsified oil normally called mayonaisse and is quite normal especially in small quantities like you have. It is caused by the engine not getting hot enough to get rid of the condensation in the filler pipe extension (on a V6) so nothing at all to worry about  :y

Regular oil changes with Vauxhall 10w40 semi synthetic and a good run will ease the problem ;)
