Reverse Lights not working always
« on: 08 December 2010, 08:46:19 »

Its been a week now since i noticed it: when the car sits for a period of time in the cold weather when i put it into reverse the lights don't light up imediately. it takes 2-3 secs to start. yesterday at one time they didn't light up at all. i noticed because the parking sensors are conected to it and they don't work either without lights. if the engine is hot then there is no problem. what can this be and how do i fix it?

Manual car? I'd look at the reverse light switch first, it's about the size of a spark plug on the side of the gearbox.  :y

depends where it is on the gearbox  ;)  ;)  ;) I swapped one from an Astra G, and that was towards the top of the g/box so nothing drained, but I'd have my finger ready to cover the hole ..... just in case!  ;D  ;D  ;D

cant remember which side it is but its high up no need to touch the  oil (too high). Check the connecting plug is not loose first. a week after i had my replacement box fitted the plug had worked loose, pushed the plug all the way back in and then there was light. :y

you wwont lose fluid, but you may stuggle to remove it, access is tight.

you need a 22mm offset ring spanner on it.
ordinary wont reach, and no room for sockets.
