Camber?
« on: 07 December 2010, 12:52:57 »

Dont know if its just me on this one so here we go! looking at the front of my mig the wheels when dead straight seem to stick out slightly more at the bottom than at the top?

Is this something to do with the angle they are set up or should i book it in to have the alignment and camber done?

Dont have any wheel wobble or and no pulls to the left or right it just looks slightly odd? again unless its just me

when you drive dose it pull to side ( make sure tyres pressure is right) 28 to 30 psi depending on weather and tyers. if pulls the traking may be out or somthing with the suspension.

The real question is, are the tyres wearing unevenly across their width?

Inner-shoulder wear is a very common issue on the Omega.  So have a good look.  Catch it early and you may save a set of front tyres from premature destruction.

Chances are if you can see the negative camber at a glance, it's too much and your tyres will soon suffer.

The Forum seems to think that a number close to -1° is roughly where you want them.  Several things can cause this to be more; old, droopy springs, knackered wishbone bushes, to name but two.

Front tyres seems to have even wear all over. although they have only done about 1200 miles so difficult to tell. does not pull at all, even at speed and no wheel wobble so i am thinking maybe wishbone bushes?

This, my friend, is what we are all trying to achieve.  I would leave well alone.      :):y

I would agree but, tyres are reasonably new so camber, if too aggressive, may not have had time to leave it's mark, although it won't be long if it's out, depending how far out it is.

The old tyres would give the best clue....

Ime if the camber is visibly leaning the wheel over it needs set up. But that's not to say they have to move anything, I would check it at least. Some places don't charge if not adjusted, micheldever are good in this regard.

If I had a flat drive I could measure the lean in with spirit level and ruler as mines just been done.  :-/

Very true indeed Chris, and something Dan will have to keep a close eye on.
Having camber checked by a competent technician would certainly do no harm, but it's the incompetent ones that worry me, they could ruin what appears to be a perfectly good setup (not withstanding  what Dan is seeing, or thinks he is seeing) :) :y

Yeah, by nature they will want to adjust something to get money in the till. Get a free check and report back I suppose? Recommended camber is minus 1 degree 10 minutes plus or minus 0.10
So anything from  1.20 to 2.45 or more needs setting more vertical. If adjusted, by nature the toe will then need setting as well to compensate. So two adjustments in that case.

Depends how they charge. Wheels in motion have a flat fee, some others charge by adjustment, so if caster is out the whole subframe is moved, so camber has to be set to that, then the toe, and if the rear is out that's 4 adjustments which could add up to £100 odd depending on pricing.

Wim in chesham charge a flat rate of 70 with oof discount at their head office only. Pays your money, makes your choice.

Personally I would get it looked at the very least, usually saves money on tyre wear.
