Cracking door syndrome.

Changed the bush, no different. Loud enough to wake the dead.

What next? That field service kit vx do for the door innards? Noticed somebody had this done at Newent, easy job?

 Don't think it's the spot welds on the door frame?

Straightforward job, just sandwiching a plate either side of the door metal where its tearing then bolting it all back together again.

Sure there is a howtoo, must have a look....

yes, I did her car while you did its bushes... 

door card off, speaker out,
undo the 2 bolts
manhandle the checkstrap out

cut down 1 of the blanking plates,
put it all back together, and wish you had more, and smaller hands!

Just to add, you'll probably need a longer pair of bolts to go through the extra plates. Can't remember if they come with the plates or have to be bought separately.

Have a look at the check strap mechanism itself first, as that may be on its' way out.

The longer screws were bought seperately when I fixed my MV6 saloon.  Came in packs of 5 or 10, as I recall.  Should still be in the garage, somewhere, but the filing and storage system is, shall we say, 'not the best'.   :-[

Mine cracked when I got her so I too changed the bush's. Didn't help..HOWEVER !  The thread on the nut had gone SO a used the only nut I could find in my garage that would fit, a nylon cored one. You know, the type that isn't supposed to easy come undone too easily.

Tightened up quite a bit and never had a problem since.

I think a lot of the problem here is when the screw and nut on the car side, come undone slightly and give the door too much movement.

Mine cracked loudly also. TB change the plastic washer for me, which fixed it temporarily, then it started again. I renewed the washer and this time swapped the pin with the pax door. No cracking from either door now :o :o :o :y :y :y

And yes, good point about checking the bolt and check strap etc, weather easing at the weekend i believe?

If its coming from the hinge rather than the strap Chris, try my fix above first. Only a five minute job. :y

Filing systems, eh? Well, I'm sitting at my desk and, for the first time in years I can see wood (not in a mirror- on the desktop!). Not much of it, admittedly, but most of the sh1te has been "filed" (in the bin, on the whole). 8-)

Fixed it. Popped over to Kevs for a couple of things aand he showed me a failed check strap mechanism. Fairly obvious looking at it, even with failed rollers, that the spring takes out any play. So not that.

So i thought that only really leaves the bolts or the metal around the bolt holes to give any play. I wonder, i thought....

...and sure enough the bolts in the door where loose for some reason. Bloody pleased with that, was expecting door card off and all that pita.
