P0303 cylinder 3 misfire detected
« on: 18 December 2010, 11:20:28 »

Morning all.
I have been getting more and more frequently a misfire when first started in the morning. The misfire will sometimes last just a few seconds and then clear. Other times like this morning three or four mins. The code is P0303 cylinder 3 misfire detected. It is always the same code. I have changed the plugs, made no difference. There is no oil in the wells. As there are no HT leads I have replaced the coil pack with a Bosch one feeling confident that must be the problem, and obviously it wasn't.
Any ideas anyone
Thanks

I know the engine isn't quite the same but it's similar  ;)SWMBO had a 16 valve Astra that had a problem with a misfire. A change of plugs sorted it ..... for a week  :'( So I put a pattern coil pack on it! Sorted! For just a couple of days. Speaking to Dr O of Ellemere Lookers he advised that these inlet manifolds foul up  :-/ (I trusted his 30 years playing with assorted Vauxhalls) and to try injector cleaner. I removed an induction hose from the manifold and sucked some directly to the manifold & the rest went in the tank.
Sorted!  :y But the car was only then on the road for a few months before it was written off.  :(

Thanks for the reply Andy.
I have already tried injector cleaner, although only through the tank. Also I would have thought if it was a bblockage of some sort it would be permanant. Mine is intermittant, and once the initial misfire has gone the car will run fine all day.

Is it worth swapping an injector to another cylinder and see if the fault follows it?  :-?
