Was back of engine, by HBV

Had to run another 2 minutes at idle afterwards, did dump 2l of water and 3l of antifreeze in to do the short home bit.

Is it likely to have damaged anything?

Water was in block but not completely in heads.

No nasty noises, no nasty smells cam cover area was not over hot

Was your antifreeze mix wrong Martin?

If its 50:50 that gives protect down to silly low temps way beyond what we get.

I thought the standard approach was to place the evaporator in series of the bypass valve?

Why 4.5 years and it runs OK.

I would need a new HBV pipe and the heater matrix out pipe

Because your evaporator will get a MUCH better hot water flow and work better, might switch to gas earlier more reliably to

Not one of Teilo's T pieces as provided by yours truly? If so, glad I've never fitted one.

Worth considering re-plumbing it, as said. Another advantage is that it reduces the number of jubilee clip connections that could fail.
