hi think i have this in the right section now lol can anyone help i have replaced my rocker gaskets on both sides of my 2.5 v6 the x25xe engine the drivers side has worked a treat but the passenger side is still runnign like a river any advice on what i can try or what i now need other than more oil lol also will add that the gaskets came from vauxworld if thats any use

Probably blocked breathers, there is a guide in the maintenance section on how to solve it.

Do it sooner rather than later as it can lead to other problems like oil in the plug wells, needing new plugs and leads.

I've only ever used GM cam gaskets, but pattern parts are rubbish says everyone on here.

Only genuine GM gaskets are recommended
Did you use the proper sealant on the cam caps.

As Geoffr said if you havn't cleaned the breathers then the gaskets will keep blowing.

me and a friend have had a bit of a butchers at it and i will end up cleaning the breathers but think the rocker cover may also be warped so will also try the rocker cover off the original engine from the car they seem in much better nick if anyone wants bits off it just let me know the problem with it was that it had lost complete compression on cylender 2 and was chucking out heavy smoke that looked as if it was burning a lot of oil

If you fit metal cam covers from a vectra, and the crankcase pressure builds up again due to blocked breathers, the oil when end up coming out of your crank seal instead, which is worse.

after readin the nice debate on the vectra metal cam covers dont think its worth the risk i am just going to take the old air intake and breather system and clean that first see how i get on then that may go on whilst i am doing the rocker gasket again
also have to admit not knowing a hell of a lot about motors but like to learn and my mechanic not having any experience of vauxhall v6's it has been a learning curve for both of us but i thought it would just be a case of swapping the gaskets lol now learning these cars need a lot lot of tlc but boy they are a bloody nice car

clean breathers and check the pas side seal is seated properly, its easy to dislodge the seal while negotiating the pita cable tray.

cleaned breathers and will check the pas pipe tomorrow as the leak isn,t as bad and she is running so much better now also adjusted the throttle cable position she now idles properly

Forgive me if I am adding 2+2 here and getting 5, but.....

I get the impression that you think that the poster above you is referring to a problem with the Power Assisted Steering pipe, when what I actually believe he meant was to double check the seal on the passenger side rocker cover, as the cable tray makes the job tricky?

Was ALL the old sealent removed from both the rocker cover and the cylinder head? Did you use the correct type of sealent, and use it in the correct places, (Haynes manual and Maintinance section on here will point you in the right direction)? Did the 'half moon' rubber section that sit at the back, (by the bulkhead) stay in place? Did you get anything trapped between the rocker cover and cylinder head? Was it all torqued down correctly?

The key to this job (and all 3 are utterly critical)

Genuine gaskets
Clean breathers
Torque wrench that goes to 8Nm


I really cannot stress how important all 3 are, and how critical that 8Nm is (and dont believe anyone who says they can accurately do 8Nm by hand/feel)

and breathers got cleaned hell of a lot came out and she is getting there now cheers for all the help
