Hi All,

My 'X' plate Omega estate, split rear seat, has just failed the MOT as the center rear seat belt has locked solid.  How do I get access into the rear seat to replace it?  I've removed the back of the seat from the car and examined it thoroughly but cannot fathom how it comes apart..... Any help gratefully received.

there are 2 clips on the seat at bottom pull them and seat comes out. left and right side. then just pull up.

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear.  I've successfully removed the seat back from the car in which the mechanism sits.  However, I cannot see how to gain access to the seat belt mechanism itself.  Do I need to pull away the felt on the seat back? Where are the bolts that hold the mechanism in place...etc.

I used to have the same problem with my Astra G estate (similar arrangement) I would unbolt the bottom fitting under the seat which put slack in the reel which then allowed the belt to release. There's a couple of cables inside linked up with the button that releases the seat back to fold it down so also make sure the buton is fully up.

oh right, remove the rubber from the door there are some screws behind the plaslic covers remove them then pull out a bit to side then pull towards you, watch out for the plastic clips that hold the top in as can snap.

isn't there a load of plastic rivets/pegs around the edge of the seat? You need to pull these out, but I got so far & abandoned the idea.

i know mine are screws, 4 screws on side and 2 clips at top,

this might be of no use at all..mondeos hatch and estate , seat belts would lock up (as andy has mentioned) if the seats were not latched fully home.

Fella has already removed the seat back and thus your post regarding the door seal has got the square root of bugger all to do with it!!!!

I swapped my reel recently, you have to cut felt as you said ,if you feel through the felt you will feel below where belt comes out of top of seat a square plate with 4 torx head bolts in a square pattern and a bolt (cant remember size approx 19mm) in centre of the square ,cut slit in felt and undo torx bolts then plate will shift backwards slightly undo bolt and reel will separate ,very fiddly to get out you will have to dismantle some of seat trim etc and remove plastic cover on top of seat where belt comes out. also be aware of locking cable which works when seat is not in upright position. I managed mine ok once its out all will become apparent but finding a replacement to go back in took me a while but i think veccy estates are the same fitting. good luck. I would not recomend trying to fix the original unless its an obvious fault I ended up with spring all over the table and not a chance of getting it back to original form!

Tapper888 had the answer.... The 'bally' mechanisam doesn't work if the latch isn't fully home.  A check with a flat-head screw driver proved the point and once I refitted the seat-back into the car, I could see the latch was slightly out of alignment and not allowing the catch to return fully home.  Thank you all for answering - especially tapper888.
