That lovely noise of a Bonnet strap breaking, Help
« on: 08 January 2011, 16:58:51 »

So bonnets locked now (FL), Ive managed in the the past to pop an Preface bonnet from underneath using a Bar and screw driver, probably more luck than skill, but just had a look under another Facelift so now thinking thats not going to work too much bumper and metalwork in the way. Anyone been here?

Looking at another FL with the bonnet up, theres a small hole under the double skin bonnet frame that looks like you can squeeze something in there and push up the spring latch away, not thats going to do much good because spring bar holding the bonnet stud in place doesn't really move or help matters.

Im also assuming that the front grill has to be damaged in order to get that far, problem 2 is the car in question has one of those steel mesh grills fixed to it.

Thoughts?

I assuming its gone at the bonnet latch end as I can feel the cable still attached to the handle when pulled all the way back, a lot more than usual, if that makes sense.

Dont think on a FL, I tried that, the lower bumpers in the way goes back a fair bit, but I'll double check.

Could it be that the the outer sleeve has slipped in it's clamp? And the inner wire is still attached? If so remove the Handel under the dash and pull. It may just need a bit more travel.

But if the cables truly snapped then this won't help obviously  .... ?

Chris, Try as Chris suggests. If ultimately you have to damage your grille :'( when you come down for the seats & bumper I can give you a standard grille :)

Yea I see where your coming from, I'll try it later, the inner cable is very loose though,

Cheers Chris.

Nope, inner cable pulls all the way out from the handle end. Ive been delaying this job, cause I really dont want to take an angle grinder to the irmscher type grill, but have set myself a target now 4 o'clock, angle grinder gets fired up and the grill gets it.

Any last requests (thoughts / ideas)

Chris.  :'(
