Are you certain that this fluid is coolant, and not rainwater from a leaky scuttle?

hhmmmm.... just a guess really but there is a redish residue left there once it dries out a bit, and is same colour as the fluid in the header tank???

Get some kitchen roll in the plug wells to soak up the liquid. You should be able to smell to see if it's coolant or oxide from the rusting process. 99% certain it'll be rainwater though, can't see how coolant could get up and over into the plug wells.

i will try it out thanks, i am losing coolant slightly so just assumed it could be that??? cant find the loss of coolant to save my life though? i will persist on finding it, i have heard it could be a bypass valve or something but thought that was only if there was no heat blowing from the hot air blowers, all my blowers are blowing hot so?????????????
thanks for help replys much appreciated

thanks henry, is the valve at the back of the engine? between the engine and the bulkhead? is yours the v6 as mine is, not sure if that makes a difference to where the valve is located. just thought it was strange it was holding water by the spark plug inserts on one side of the v so to speak.    :)

potentially - it could be that valve.

When I was loosing water it took me ages to find it and it would only do it when the engine was fully and completely warmed up.

the bloody valve had a crack in it and it was spraying the water up towards the underside of the bonnet and onto the top of the engine - so it could have filled up the plug holes in that scenario.

will be taking it all apart tonight as i made the mistake of leaving it too long, now the car isnt idling properly. im guessing the coolant is now getting down to the spark plug or into the lead and not firing properly. doh. thanks for all info peeps

had a good look at the leak. it isnt the HBV it was a pin hole in the water pipe that runs accross the top of the spark plugs (nearside). vaux quoting 10 days delivery for the pipe so just had to put some gaffa tape over the pin hole for now. as for the missfire does anyone know if this will dry out or do i need to change 3 of the plugs and leads???

try drying it out first and see if the missfire goes away.
