steering wobble
« on: 24 January 2011, 12:06:47 »

I have developed a bit of a steering wobble and i'm unsure whats causing it.

It's most noticable when changing lanes on a motor way, the car seems to wander about for a second or two till i can get it back in a straight line, it also happens when i hit an uneven road surface.

Any ideas on how to find out whats wrong and fix it appreciated.

Sounds like front wishbone bushes.

I can just start to feel the same with mine although it is only slight at the moment.

Check wishbone bushes, as said, and also check for uneven tyre wear, as you might have a camber issue.

Also worth checking the passenger side steering idler arm for play in the bush.

I find worn (below 4mm or so) tyres on the front contribute a little tramlining even when everything is set up perfectly.

I had this a while back. turned out to be wishbone bushes and rubbish front tyres. Replace bushes, improved but didnt cure the problem. Changing the tyres finally solvled it (although it does still have a slight tendency to tramline).

They were Falken tyres, replaced with Dunlop Sport Maxx.

I had Falkens on the front of mine too ... now i did change the whole four wheels for new wheels with new tyres and the tramlining stopped immediatly ... never buying Falkens again  ;)

Dont worry Kev, Bigdods and I have done the Falken thing previously.  :y

Another one converted, the crusade continues, praise the lord Dunlop. Not encountered a more planted tyre tbh.

Wonder what Proz fitted?

Anything is better than part worn F**kens. But if the Cheepo slingalongs that came on my wheels are anything to go by, go steady in  the wet, veeery steady. Apart from that the Linglongs where not bad tbh.  :-/
