Headlights dull, possibly on inside!
« on: 29 January 2011, 15:52:44 »

Hello again.

The headlights on the my omega are quite dull. I havnt had a go with the polish etc that is mentioned on here just yet, but it does look more like the inside of the plastic lens is fogged up, possibly from getting damp inside or something. Is this likely?

Ive taken the rubber surround off and am trying to get the lens off to have a look once and for all, but it refuses to move. It seems like there is sealant around the lens to, er, seal it but the clips all around suggest it may come off? If so, does anyone know the price of the lens or, indeed, the full headlight assembly?

Stick it in the oven on about 100deg for 5-10 minutes, then peel the lens off

Cool il give that a go. Any danger of melting anything thats not meant to be melting (the headlight cables etc!)?

Just gently prise the lense away from the headlight as you slice through the black goo a bit at a time with a Stanley knife.

Ok got it off easy enough and surprise surprise there appears to be no problem on the inside. On closer inspection it actually looks more like something is within the glass, maybe something that has been left and has burnt on with the heat of the light.

Im going to give AutoGlym a work out and see if that solves it. The fogging fix suggested in the Maintenance Section looks like its not a fix for what i have. Though i may give it a go anyway if this doesnt work!

And in addition to all this, any solutions to get the sealant off the lens? At the moment its a bit smeary :|
