hi all , well here goes again another month another problem , whilst quietly pootling along this afternoon at about 30 mph( yes honestly !!!) my EML came on and the car started running and sounding like it had dropped a cylinder , got home did paperclip test and got an 82 (low voltage injector 2 ) and a 31 (no rpm ) threw key to let a mate listen , ran like a dream for the rest of the day , gave her a  bit of right foot down dual carriageway just to check and all good , till about ten mins ago lol light came on again and same codes . I'm guessing with the info i've got that i need a new injector , but before buying one , is it an easy fix ? don't mind getting my hands dirty but i'm not even sure where the inectors are , never mind which one is injector 2 lol wanna get a multi meter or something on it before shelling out the frankly rediculous and very very overpriced sum of 80-100 quid just for the part . no work has been done under the bonnet recently apart from fitting a tensioner on fan belt , went from an empty tank to full one yesterday so i'm also wondering if it could just be blocked (cant see why that would give a low voltage read though ?) any help as always greatly appreciated .  :-/ :-/ :-/

Remember the code doesn't necessarily identify the faulty component. 

It suggests there's a fault on the circuit to injector 2 but I'd be surprised if it's the injector itself. First thing to check would be that the connector is firmly seated on the injector, IMHO.

If you remove the plenum you can see the injector connectors between each branch if the intake manifold.

They would typically have about 12-16 ohms resistance or thereabouts and they should all be the same. Do check the connector and wiring back to the ECU as well, though.

Oh, and injectors are reliable so a 2nd hand one will be fine. I believe they are the same between the 2.5 and 3.0 engines but check the part numbers just in case.

Any work recently on the engine, cam covers or oil cooler by somebody not familiar with the Omega per chance?

If so, pop the plenum off and check the injector connectoprs are fully home.

Also, check the wires to the injector multiplug which lives behind the passenger cylinder head for breaks and damage.

thanks kevin , removing the plenum ( dont know what it is but will find out lol ) is it a big job ? i'm looking at going doing it pretty much straight away but dont want to be fooling around in this freezin weather all night lol

Its the big aluminium thingy on top of the engine. its got ecotec written on it

Its covered in the some of the maintenance guides e.g. cam cover gasket one, oil cooler one etc

hi mark , nope no work done , i had a quick glance under myself yesterday ( i usually just have a look every few days ) but that was bonnet ,up quick look for any obvious leaks smokes bangs rattles but no moving or shifting of any leads/wires or cables , in the back of my mind i remember a friend saying that this sort of thing on these age vauxhalls can usually be down to a connection fault/worn wiring etc so i'm keeping my fingers crossed , gotta say it aint easy looking around under there tho its crammed lol no room .

In which case I would be going for a broken wire (wiring faults are mega rare), this can be just about got at with just the scuttle removed

I'm in stockport mate and your more than welcome to pop over to mine or me to you and i can take the plenum off for you its not hard mate.  Just make sure you take your time and if need be photo ever stage or label with tape.

The 'northwest' is a big place!  Be a bit more specific & you might find some one local to you that can have a look and/or give you a lift to Preston.

thanks gstyle , i'd take you up on the offer but i'm not even sure ive got the right tools here , i'm only in oldham so its 15 mins away on the 60 , i'm pretty much flying blind at min ive just realised that both my ratchet set and my torch are in a unit in rochdale , it never rains lol  :-/
