This is no doubt a stupid question, but?
« on: 01 February 2011, 12:26:53 »

What exactly does the sport mode on my 2.6 v6 do and when should it be used, ie when doing variable speed or more constant?

It lowers the point in the rev range at which the transmission kicks down to a lower gear. Used for accellerating when already moving - ie when overtaking.
Can also be used to see how quickly you can use a tank of fuel. ;D

Also quite useful when going up hill in slow moving traffic, prevents the transmission changing up and down quite so much.
And also usefull when descending hills by applying slightly more engine braking. Which if it keeps the RPM above 1500rpm is more fuel efficent.

imo, manuel like (over drive 1,2,3,D) usage gives better results and control imo.. you can use sports mode at the same time also.. as a result you will make the fuel station more happy  by your frequent visits ;D :y

ps: before using overdrive try accelerating in 1 st and 2 nd to see  their limits .. so you can safely drop the gear..  from experience my 2.5 auto can do approx 90 km/hr in 1st

Also note that the transmission wont physically engage a gear if it is not safe to do so.  You could travel at 150MPH and pull the stick into position 1, but it wont engage 1st gear..... thats the theory anyway!  ;D

I've known the theory for years ..... but never tested it in action!  ;D ;D ;D
