Lumpy running - like hiccups..
« on: 10 February 2011, 20:17:35 »

I have a problem with the motor guys and advice needed.

It started a week or so ago a would feel like a stumble then carry on. Started to get more frequent and more noticable. Then today it has become constant, like a stumble or running lumpy. When the car is stationary and running I do a miniture version of bouncing up and down on a Massey Ferguson tractor!

Checked for codes and got - no engine rpm signal.
checked up and suggested to change crank sensor.

Did that and no difference.

Measured the resistance of the old one in-situ and got about 96 ohms. Measured the new one out of the box and got 930-something. Measured the old one again off the car and got 560-something.

Anyway neither old or new sensor make any difference.

Suggestions?

plugs and leads done recently - never had an issue with the diss pack...

would that not show a code?

only shows that one about the rpm.

is there some way to check the diss pack, leads and plugs? - don't want to spend that money if it turns out they are not the problem...

well, changed the plugs today - what a bugger to do the passenger side bank! Pretty sure the plugs, leads and diss pack are fine what with the belts I was getting when trying to run the car with one plug disconnected. As each plug was diss'ed the car run even worse so I'm pretty sure they are ok.
Problem still here but after re-fitting the old crank sensor - again - the fault code is gone.
Still running rough - it feels like the car is running with the choke stuck out!
Fuel consumption has risen and she still slightly rocks the car at tickover and sounds harse and raspy on accelleration and speed and sounds / feels like it is missing on one cylinder.
I am sure the temp reading has dropped from 90 degrees to 80-85.

Ideas please guys....

A missfire will be either Plugs, Leads or Dispack.

You need to find which cylinder is the problem by testing the spark of each lead, that will tell you what Voltage is being pasted through to the plug if that makes sense. 40,000 volts the dispack should be banging through to the plug if say number 3 is 10,000 volts there maybe a problem with your dispack or lead...
Hope this is making sense as I have had a few sherberts  ;D ;D
