Car Alarm keeps going off
« on: 15 February 2011, 14:11:32 »

Hi All.
I have a miggy 2.2 Manual Diesel Saloon. X Reg, I have had her for two years without any trouble. recently just before Christmas, my Car alarm started sounding, (Its Vauxhalls own alarm that was fitted when car was new) so I went out unlocked it with the keyfob and locked it again, it was ok untill yesterday, I parked her up at home and in the afternoon the alarm just started going, I checked around, no cats or anything, then today it has done it twice, I have had to leave her on my drive between the houses unlocked, so it doesnt go off again, has anyone any ideas.
Regards to All

Disconnect the under bonnet alarm switch. If it still keeps going off, disconnect the powersounder. http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1220198611

Actually if the powersounder is the cause (leaking batteries) removing it completely is probably the best option

Till you find the fault, you can lock your car without setting the alarm. Open rear driver's door, push down driver's door lock, close back door. Make sure you have your keys in your hand/pocket before you do though.  ;) ;) :y :y

That will only solve the problem if the fault is the power sounder, the alarm system will still sound the horn if there is still a fault.
After many months of having similar problems disconnecting everything I found despite unplugging the bonnet switch that this was the final problem, after working on the engine I realised I had slightly bent the bonnet sensor towards the engine block allowing the plunger to rise up in a recessed part of the bonnet next to where the plunger should locate, it does on mine anyway have a small window where the plunger must push on the bonnet.
Hope this helps  :y

The switch is normally closed, & closing the bonnet will open the contacts inside the switch. By unplugging the switch the contacts in the switch couldn't be more open  ::) ::)

I agree but even when removed it went off every time, I still cannot understand why but after weeks of trying everything I spotted the problem and have had 4 weeks of everything working perfectly

The bonnet switch can be a problem especially in hot weather. The bonnet moves or expands with the heat, the switch is activated and the alarm sounds  :o
