Auto gear box problems in lever in 'P'

I Have a V6 2.5 Omega auto 'R' reg. the gear lever gets sutck in park 'P' and is very hard to shift. What could be the problem and a solution. tks

brake pedal switch is the usual suspect. It could be the solenoid by the gear selector but more like to be the brake switch .................... even if your brake lights work - there's two set of contacts inside.

As said, probably brake switch. To release lever prise gaiter cover up & push yellow lever

It's a ball ache trying to get to this when the lights have gone to green & the traffic behind you are getting irate at you cos you ain't moving!

Nope, most of us have a proper gearbox  ::)  :P  ;D

Elite now gone.  Bought an X-Type 4x4.  If there had been an Omega 4x4 I would have bought that instead.  We really liked the Omega, but I wanted 4x4.

Why is it that drivers of autos think that the handbrake is redundant? I have driven automatics for years and always park up using the handbrake as well as 'P'. I also use it when standing at lights. After all, when I drive a manual I don't park up by leaving it in 1st with the handbrake off.
