Ive just bought a new pair of droplinks which came without nuts, i went to my local motor factors & they cant find nuts with the same thread type/size, anybody know what nuts i need as i dont want to use the old ones if i can help it.

Droplinks usually come with the nuts mate, I would ask the people you bought them off

fine can get stuck depending on the drop links bought.

That'd be a fugging great nut! :-? I suspect you mean M10 
and there's a choice of 1.5 1.25 or 1.0 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_metric_screw_thread

So, we are back to talking a 'standard' 17 mm across the flats size.

As AndyB says, at least three variables hence its not simply standard.  Perhaps a standard spanner size but not a thread.

And thread size was the original query, as I read it.

Exactly, its a bit worrying when a motor factors dont have the nuts!!, I got these links off the bay so cant see the seller supplying me the nuts now, does the thread differ on depending who makes them?. :-/ :-/

Do the old nuts fit the new or haven't you tried them. If push comes to shove you could re-use them with a bit of Loc-tite, not ideal  :-/

You'd be better trying an engineering suppliers, they're more likely to be able to help you.

I am afraid that I would be getting onto the person you bought them off. You dont want to be chancing cross threading your threads else you will be buying new ones again anyway. Just my opinion

You don't really know do you?   

As others have said these normally come with new nuts (either 17mm across flats or sometimes 18mm)

Best bet take them to "hardware" or "engineering" shop to get nuts to suit.

Ive tried getting onto them but no answer, so i`ll hunt around until i find new nuts because even if the old ones fit the threads are liable to be stretched anyway so not good, thanks for the help anyway all of you.

There will be nothing wrong with the nuts you take off the old track rod ends, just reuse them..
