FL Gearlever gaiter
« on: 25 February 2011, 17:28:19 »

Just noticed I'll need to renew the leather gearlever gaiter on my FL.
Haven't looked at how it's removed yet but Haynes only shows the PFL .
Does the surround shown just clip in place ?

Unclip surround, look underneath, self-explanatory

Gently squeeze edges of platic surround inwards (towards the lever) as there are lugs under the centre console and it just lifts out. The plastic surround comes apart to release gaiter bottom i think??? New gaiters are easy to find on ebay and the like. Hanbrake gaiters are sometimes sold with them together as a set. It shouldn't matter if you need to tear/cut the old one off.
Must say that your's is in better nick than mine as the material is flaking away.

Why oh why was there never a V8 Omega????
Such a missed oppurtunity.
Look forward to the Cadillac ATS & ATS-V. Maybe a re-badged one will replace the Miggy as a RWD runner?

when you replace it my advice to you would be to go to your local taylor, but some leather and with the old gaiter ask him to make an exact replica. when you will put it back you will just glue it to the lower frame because you won't be able to use a stapler on it unless you have an industrial one :).. i got both gear and handbracke with natural really soft(glove like) leather and it was 15 pounds but they will last a life time :)

You have ebay real leather gaiters sold in UK, I've fitted one and it is ok bud as Boditza said you'll have to glue it cause staplers wont work
