Most likely ABS ECU nackered mate - if you're lucky could be a sensor.

Search for abs ecu on here - plenty of info.

Pig of a job to change but doable

ABS ECU most likely culprit. I just got a 2nd hand one and took it to garage to do. My car wanted blood from me just for changing headlight bulbs so I would of probably required an intravenous drip to do the abs ecu.

Mine is 2.5 and manual so did not require any tech2. Was plug and play.

I have been getting a (squeal-Squeak)  from the back brakes in the last couple of days could this be the sensor?

If it is the ABS ECU is it still save to drive?

It certainly sounds like the ABS  ECU is dead or dying.

As said it is a pain getting the old module out,but local place does repairs...BBA Reman at Rochester Airport Estate..turn around time if delivered and collected is normally 48 hours but will cost about £120=00 and comes with 1 year warranty.

The noise you are hearing neads investigating so would suggest removing brake disc/drum..might be just hand brake shoes are binding or need replacing as linnings have become detacted from shoe,or pads getting a bit low and metal is contacting disc.

The ABS will not be working as the module is not pumping correctly or at all so brake pedal might feel a bit odd...BUT BRAKES WILL STILL WORK.

Power steering will also feel quite heavy so you need to be aware of that and drive accordingly.Speedo might suddenly start working and then stop so be very aware of your speed..other than that car is quite driveable but needs repairing as could have insurance issues if you have a bump.

I had the same coincidence. No connection and abs ecu replacement alone solved the issue. Brakes were seperate issue.
Car is fine to drive without abs ecu. Just the steering can be either heavy or light as the speed related assistance is affected. Also maybe use satnav for your speedo.

That does explain a few things i have thought the steering was a bit heavy at times just put it down to the poor road conditions.
Will try to source a new one
Thanks for all your help :y

A new ECU will require a Tech2 session to match it to your car .. VX will charge around £70 for that alone !! and a new ECU around £600... :(

Either a 2nd hand unit form the same engine/gearbox/model year car .. so avoiding the need to Tech2 .. or get yours repaired ... as said BBA Reman do a good job .. about £135 last time ... :)

Personally. I would recommend if you can afford to get it fixed ASAP as if you god forbid have a serious. Accident and the police find out about the fault and they have ways to do this you will be in deep deep dodo.  So if you can do with out the car while its being fixed i would
