front tyres wearing on inside?
« on: 01 March 2011, 18:27:37 »

Hi,
Just wondering whether this is something simple like tracking,
Or something more sinister like wishbones?

It's both front tyres wearing on the inside shoulder.

Thanks

Inner shoulder wear is camber.  The camber may be due to worn suspension, or poor adjustment, or most likely a combination.

Omega is fussy with camber, just settign to 'green' simply isn't good enough.

is it going to cost me silly money to get it sorted, cos i cant be wearing through every set of tyres like this lol
I do tend to buy part worns, but would prefer them to last a bit longer.
Techincally they are legal still as its only the outer shoulder.

so for now i wont worry, i'l start with tracking, see if that cures pull to the left and then have a look at camber settings.

thanks

Honestly, don't waste your money pissing around with tracking. Complete waste of money on 99.99% of Omegas, and your shoulder wear is clearly camber.

Check for suspension wear, then get a full geo check done. Not tracking, not 4 wheel laser alignment tosh. Full geometry check.

TB just beat me to it, your camber IS out! You may buy some time by setting up roughly, see here:- http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1283955011

and that's going to cost me £100's ???
I've not got the money to be throwing at it right now.
Its so annoying when things wear like that....

I take it WIM is the best at this, from what i've seen on here.
I'm not travelling up that far for it though.
I'll ask them where their nearest agent is.

thanks

if i'm going to spend money getting it done,
I might as well chuck these on first and then get them done....

Sorry but I agree with TB, it's a total waste of money to do Tracking / laser four wheel rubbish on an Omega.

Needs to be set up by someone who understands the Omega chassis, there are a few who know, not just WIM. You'll get your money back on the first set of tyres you don't have to buy.

I would also add that in my experience inner shoulder wear is mostly down to worn wishbone bushes, check all the suspension components using the guide on here as reference and replace anything that needs replacing before visiting a proper outfit for Geometry, yes it'll cost you initially but you'll throw good money after bad otherwise.

Also,

What's the consensus on using cheaper wishbones?
I reaaaaaly cant afford to be paying £200 for wishbones from allgermanparts and then having to pay £100 or so to WIM as well....it's just not viable as an option for me.

Including the fact i'm going to have to buy new tyres too....
and the tax is due......

looks like i'd end up paying exactly the same for fixing it as i did just buying the car last fortnight!!!

I would consider doing the work myself, i've read the wishbone changing guide.
So i'd save some money there.

Thoughts please?  :(
thanks

I fit the cheap ones from ebay... Seem to last about 18 months-2 years. Wishbones are a service item IMO, although I might polybush these ones :-/ :-/

Ah ok,
I have found a pair of ebay ones for £50 delivered, so that seems more reasonable
I could fit those and they enquire about the geometry set up at Discount tyres (cwmbran).
As these are the closest affiliates of WIM.

My mileage is not massive, i drive a couple of hundred miles every weekend for work and the occasional long trip somewhere, scotland etc.

So tbh, i think i'll go with the cheap ones.
Who knows, i might not even have the car still in 2 years lol
I seem to change every 6 months so far..... :-/

Havent found one i want to spend lots of money on yet lol

I've just bought some front lower wishbones, complete with bushes.

Vauxhall were wanting £96 for the bushes only. Unipart, wishbones and bushes came to £76 inc VAT. Just need to get them fitted this weekend.

So, this WIM place? Where is it? And if it's miles away from me, is there anyone in the South Yorkshire / North Derbyshire area who is any good for full geo?
