Tried to remove the above today but all I managed doing was to inadvertently move the spring clip round to the back and making it virtually impossible to get pliers on it - struggled with it for half-hour then gave up.
I'm now thinking stanley-knife and chop it off - any other bright ideas would be appreciated

Can't get anything on (mole grips included) - thinking now to remove wiper motor and linkages (to get better access) and possibly removing the breather box.
It has too come off, by hook or by crook, as the pipes are blocked (cam cover gaskets leaking  )
If that doesn't work size 8 and a half boots thru the roof

Use WD40  which should allow the pipe to slide back round then get either mole grips or pliers on it. I take it that it is not a small jubilee clip like mine? As a last resort can you get a hacksaw blade to the clip rather than cutting the pipe?

There's a couple of ways to remove those little 'bent over' metal clips, but the one that worked for me was to insert a wide flat bladed screwdriver under the lip of the bent over part and twist the screwdriver to pop it off.

Couldn't get the little buggers back on, mind, since I lack the proper clip pliers. So they're secured via alternative means now!

Well my roof is still intact...........but only just.
Took the wiper motor off which gave me much better access and was able to get a small pair of long nosed pliers onto the clip to turn it round, then got my mole grips on and managed to get it off.

Tons of crap came out of the pipes.............so hopefully my new cam cover gaskets will last a bit longer (2 years & 20k miles for old ones)

Oh well cam cover gaskets next...................oh joy............ NOT

And when you put it all back together again you did put decent jubilee clips in place of the spring ones, didn't you!!

Why use jubilee clips as they crush the pipes and could also cause it to rip.

When the master..DAZ....did mine a couple of years ago he suggested cable ties on the 2 large pipes was adequate as only needed securing in place and the 2 smaller middle pipes have no pressure so just push on with a bit of grease/vaseline.

Mine has been like that for over 35k miles and no ill effects so cable ties is my advise

Funnily enough I used cable ties when I did mine, too.

I figure if they're enough to hold reasonable positive pressure together in the MR2, they'll do just fine holding nothing but a bit of vacuum in the Omega.

'course they are a bit of a sod to subsequently remove, as you have to cut them without hacking a hole in the pipe.

Expect if they weren,t done too tight you could just pull pipe off ,using the little bit of the cable tie body to grip on with long nosed pliers or similar, and then just pull off pipe once removed

You cut sideways through the 'latch' part of a tie, you don't damage the pipe then.

That's what I normally do, too.
