the mod is all to do with the ECU recognising if it is fitted to a manual car or an automatic. The wire itself is nothing to do with the timing retard.

It's all about making the car easy to build for Opel. The ECU has both sets of internals for both gearboxes and once installed on the production line, the presence of an earth on the line in question tells the ECU which type of transmission is fitted.

the ignition retard is applied during the gearchange on the auto only, to reduce the power a bit and therefore make it a smoother gearchange. Not required on a manual.

The car is all back together now went to start the car and nothing, have all the ignition lights come but nothing on the turn of the key. Now the starter inhibitor switch wires are they the wires from the gearbox side or the wires inside the car? If inside the car they are conected if the wires at the gearbox end then these need to be sorted, so would this be the cause of the non starting?
All the plugs are connected to the relevant sockets so no problems there just this non starting problem.

  All help is appreciated.

have you taken the auto wiring out of the engine bay ? that's the stuff in the third large connector adjacent to the battery.

that's probably the best place to bridge the starter wires.
