EML light on plus codes.
« on: 11 March 2011, 15:19:49 »

My 2.6 has recently started running rough again. I'm getting codes 0300......0305.....0306
I've lifted both the coil packs which are slightly rusty and have one or two cracks in them. I have just replaced all six plugs but still get exactly the same codes with the pedal trick.

Any ideas?.....I now only have 8 fingers left after lifting  the coil pack on the 2..4..6 bank.... :-/ :-/

Thanks in advance.

your codes need to be cleared or if by fitting new plugs you have fixed the fault then the codes will clear after the car has had 20 'clean starts' ie starts where nothing has upset the ECU enough to log a fault.  ;) ;) ;)

Thanks Andy. It looks like the plugs are not the problem as the EML light refuses to go out and the car will not run smoothly. Sounds like it's running on about four cylinders to me.......especially at lower revs. Acceleration is glacial..... :-/ :-/....I should add that I have just started and restarted the car some thirty times and more in order to try and clear the codes....

If the EML is still on, then you still have a fault.  :(

I'm wondering if it's the coil packs . The old girl has done 102,000 miles and I believe them to be original. Much of the visible metal is corroded and is bulging slighty cracking the plastic casing..... :-/

I don't have a DBW car but I wouldn't think there should be any metal of the individual coils visible. I would agree with you in that you need to replace them both.  :(

Generic ignition coils don't get good press  :-/ :-/

There are several "small windows"where you can see the metal on the DBW coil packs Andy. This  is normal. But
I really don't want to buy a new pair and find out they are not the problem

I priced them at my local VX dealer........£112 each.....However Vaux World do brand new pattern parts for about £60 each. I can get them off a scrapped Omega for about £30 each........but they are probably as "Donald Ducked"as the ones I already have. They will be at least 7 or 8 years old by now.... :-/ :-/

If yours are cracked, and show signs of corrosion, thats normally a sign they are knackered.

Bit coincidental for both to go though...
