Td rattly tensioner
« on: 14 March 2011, 09:53:30 »

Hi peeps,

Right the tensioner for the auxiliary belt. You got the damper at the top, the tensioner pulley, and the bit in the middle it pivots on. On mine, this middle part rattles and wobbles as if the bearings are FUBAR'd.
Is it just a case of undoing it with an offensively large Allen key in the front of it or do I need to drop the timing chain and get right in there?

Does the pivot point be backward threaded or anything?
 :)

Theres no bearings on that part it just pivots on a shaft.
The only threaded bit is where it screws into the timing cover and another if your lucky and the end cap comes off.
The best way to get the end cap off is by using a small set of stilsons.
There is a chance that the whole lot will unscrew from the timing housing.
Just one other pointer DON'T lever the tensioner you will break it. undo the 17mm bolt and slacken the 13mm bolt and using a bar about 2feet long to take the preasure off the 17mm bolt.(put other end of the bar under the manifold and push the bit that pops up down to re-tension)
You might find the pully itself is rattling have you tried spraying WD40 on the pully bearings :y

It's definitely the end cap that's rattling, you can see it wobble against the side of the timing belt casing
:y many thanks I'll check it out later when I get home,
