You're dead right there Henri, my 200k+ Miggy would have ended up in great Omega resting place in the sky long ago if it wasn't for the help and advice I've received from this forum!  :y :y :y

Hi Chaps,  Following being advised by a few members that the Elring gaskets i fitted would not last and were not as good as genuine Vauxhall ones at £32 per side i decided to contact Elring.  Carmen at Elring has just sent me an email advising that their Gaskets for the V6 omega are sourced by them from a company called Kaco who are the OE supplier to Vauxhall/Opel.  Carmen further advises that if i had therefore bought from GM they would have been exactly the same gaskets.

Well done for doing the research, but they're saying pretty much what you'd expect them to say, aren't they?

They're not very likely to say "Oh, no, they're different and inferior to what Vx sell"

Would be interesting to get andyc's input, but he's probably not able to comment much without compromising his job.

I think I bought a set of these about 2 years ago - they are now starting to leak, have done approx 20k miles - I suppose thats not bad for a cheapy set.

I distinctly remember the 2 halves of the gasket were joined together so had to cut them with a pair of scissors whereas the genuine ones (which I have now bought) are 2 seperate bits .................so if the ones you buy are joined together they are not genuine ones but most likely pattern.

All i'll say on the matter is you get what you pay for.
Make sure you read webb sites T&C's (small print) very carfully as some are worded cleverley

I'll alway try and help members out as best as possible on prices but sometimes its not possible.

Better put a stop on my next order of gaskets as i don't want to get stuck with obsolet stock, thoses prices are less than what we buy for and i would say less the what GM buy at

Less us know when they turn up what packet they are in just out of interest you understand

Cheers

Make sure you've got one set on the shelf because mine are not long to this world and I know where I'll be buying the replacements. ;)

You pay your money and you take your chances. I personally will not fit any gaskets that haven't come from across a Vauxhall dealers counter.

MF, No cutting of my gaskets as my car's gasket is all one piece.  New engine was fitted by Vauxhall in 2004.  I believe the newer engines are one piece.
If yours lasted 20,000 miles and i only do 3-5k per year i will have at least 4 yrs driving. lol ;D
