MF, No cutting of my gaskets as my car's gasket is all one piece.  New engine was fitted by Vauxhall in 2004.  I believe the newer engines are one piece.
If yours lasted 20,000 miles and i only do 3-5k per year i will have at least 4 yrs driving. lol ;D

I, too, would have gone down the cheapskate route if the gaskets weren't a pita to fit (n/s being the worst).

I wouldn't rely on them lasting 4yrs as mine only lasted just over 2yrs - it's an ageism thing ............they go harder with age (Ooooer    shouldn't have said that  ::))       :y

Just because something is made by the same company, does not mean it is made to the same specifications. The die may be the same, but the compound of rubber poured may be altered to lower the price.

The forum "experience" seems to show that VX gaskets last .. those purchased elsewhere don't...regardless of the name on the packet ...

So... VX only for me everytime .. when it comes to cam cover gaskets.....:)

Genuine only. Sorry.

Autovaux rarely supply genuine, no matter what they say on phone

Better put a stop on my next order of gaskets as i don't want to get stuck with obsolet stock, thoses prices are less than what we buy for and i would say less the what GM buy at

Less us know when they turn up what packet they are in just out of interest you understand

Cheers
Andy

Make sure you've got one set on the shelf because mine are not long to this world and I know where I'll be buying the replacements. ;)

Kevin

Make that 2 sets... Mine are weeping and will be replaced in the near future :y

The last set of genuine ones have done 70k though so I can't complain :y

Selling them as genuine is one thing but the experience of OOF members who experience the quality difference between genuine and non is invaluable. I took the advise myself having Genuine Vx Cam Cover Gaskets Fitted last week and knowing i dont need to 'keep an eye on them' :y

Yep. Mine are presumed original, and have done 112K (70k in my ownership, at least).

Hi Chaps,  Hate to admit defeat here but the Elring cam seals i fitted just over 2 weeks ago are leaking already.
Spoke to Vaux World who say they are top notch and failure must be either due to cam cover warp or blocked breathers.  I advised him the breathers were cleaned out when gaskets were fitted and surely if the cam covers were warped they would have leaked immediatly and not 2 weeks later.
Any comments greatly appreciated.

Thanks for popping back with the update, but assuming fitted and torqued correctly, and that the covers are flat (easy enough to prove when you take em off), then its as was suggested, time to take your loss and buy genuine  :'(

Yes torqued to 8nm.  When off i put them on a level surface and they looked ok to me.  Surely if they were warped they would have leaked from day one and not 2 weeks later?

The warping thing is a myth started by mechanics as an excuse for using shoddy parts.

Of course, if they were warped when you changed them, they would leak straight away. Sounds like they are fitted correctly, so that rules out warpage since replacement.

Sorry, its just poor quality cam cover gaskets - certainly not the first set of Omega Elring cam cover gaskets we've seen fail prematurely

But 2 weeks is wild premature.  So warping of the covers does not exist?

I guess its always possible, esp if badly fitted. But I've never seen one. I've never even heard of a genuine case. The only damage I've ever seen is chips in the edges.

Have asked VauxWorld for a full refund of gaskets but that will not help me when spending hours doing the job all over again :'(

Lesson learned

I remember someone posting pictures of a set of cam covers where the sides were about as straight as a dogs hind leg, not so long ago.. can't find 'em now, of course :)

My covers sat perfectly flat on my kitchen table.
