Adjust handbrake
« on: 17 March 2011, 20:03:42 »

Hello

MOT on my car is soon due and the handbrake is just barly working when the lever is pulled all the way up.
Any one here who know how to adjust it? I would think it is done from under the car. Any panels that needs to be taken off and is it a big job?
My car is a Omega 2.0 16V 1997 mod.

Changed my cable earlier this evening.  Ideally use a 13mm ratchet spanner to tighten the cable adjuster. You'll be there all day with an ordinary spanner. There's not even room for a quarter turn.

if you know the history/condition of the handbrake shoes just adjust each hand brake shoe by removing the rear wheels and adjusting the hand brake shoes thru the wheel bolt hole. rotate the disc till you see the star wheel, adjust up till lock up, then take off a couple of clicks so it turns nicely.
then if not to spec check/adjust  the cable for slack.

Check and adjust the cable slack before anything or your rea wheel adjustment will be a total waste of time......and remember, there should be some slack
