Tyres (again) - what was the verdict?
« on: 21 March 2011, 20:46:28 »

Took my Elite for an MOT today. It passed but with an advisory that the rear tyres were close to the legal limit.

I fitted them just before last years MOT so they have only lasted 14,000 miles :(

235/45R17 'Elite' (no I've never heard of them either) but they felt good and haven't given me any nasty surprises. At £108 the pair fitted including balance, valve, VAT & landfill tax I am tempted to go and get another pair.

Last year a thread was started discussing the best tyre for the Omega but I cannot remember what the verdict was :-/

I put mitchelin pilot sports on and have done 17,000 miles and not even half way yet. £250 a corner on 225/35/19, but looks like I'm gonna get 40k out of them. So in mileage comparison still seam good value vs budget cost and wear.

There won't be a definitive answer... I probably expect different things from my tyres than you do ;) ;)

The only real consensus seemed to be that Falkens don't work. ::)

I'm interested in other peoples experiences. There seemed to be some agreement that Continentals worked well :-/

If I have to pay 5 times as much for 2.5 times the mileage I may as well go for the same again....

Ask a hundred people and you'll probably get a hundred answers.

I am using Kumho KU31's on my DTi Elite at the moment, very happy with them and the price is good.

My elite has Michelin PS2 all round, stunning durability if you don't overdrive them, but sod all grip.

My MV6 has Dunlops, much higher grip levels in dry and wet, I suspect I'll get around 15k from them. £100 a corner, fitted.

A quality sadly lacking in the cheap no-names the previous owner put on mine!
