Are new exhausts always loud?
« on: 25 March 2011, 22:47:22 »

My new exhaust is too loud and is its getting really annoying now. Even my boy racer friend from Southend commented that 'its a bit loud innit'.

Will it quieten down in time?

Although not ridiculously loud, my Jetex system has been on for the last 5 or 6 yrs & hasn't quietened down any ........ but s/s exhausts are generally a bit louder than a comparable mild steel system.

If it's for road use and British standard stamped(?) or whatever the road designation is these days then it's not road legal or fit for purpose. Take it back, should still be under warranty anyway.

Long Life will make you a system and you tell 'em what sort of noise you want and they build it that way.

Mine is (along with the majority - so they'll have me believe) 'Mild Sport'. Not especially noisy but sounds good when you need it to!

Assume you mean "booming" noise. Seems a lot of the aftermarkets do that. One of the reasons is that the tail pipes don't extend out far enough from beyond the body and the gases exit and linger under the rear bumper.

Buy some chrome pipe extensions, cheap from Wilco and it helps quite a bit.

In fairness, each of my tail pipes has got two, one over the other and its now just got a very gentle "big V6" burble.

My eternal one is pretty close to the VX one I took off in terms of noise and cheap :)

Eternal on the MV6, a little bit louder than the genuine (old style) GM on the Elite, but still better than most patterns...
