Mini facelift front grille
« on: 29 March 2011, 15:07:09 »

Hi all,

I have the standard front grill with silver "V" and griffin logo. I want to take the silver "V" off along with the logo and have a plain black grille.
After looking at the back of the grille, I can't see how to get it off without breaking it.

Any help would be gratefull on how to do it :)

If it's already been done, how does it look?

Cheers all    :y

If memory serves, the silver V clips on (and you do risk breaking it by trying to take it off, but I'm sure it can be done). The trouble is, if you take off the silver V, you are left with a silver V shaped indentation in the black grille, which doesn't look particularly cool. It just looks like the silver V is missing :)

For the pre-facelift I think there's an irmscher black grille available (and a cheap but just as good ebay copy if I'm not mistaken). Looks good but doesn't have the body-colour surround of the mini-facelift which I quite like. I'm not sure if that would fit on a mini-facelift - probably would but there may be different holes in the bumper etc etc.

What I did (when my mini-facelift silver V was cruelly destroyed by a big stone) was take it and the black grille out altogether, leaving a big hole. I then screwed a piece of stainless steel square mesh behind the hole (which happenned to be a factory reject Aston Martin mesh grille I had lying about :)). Still haven't got round to painting it black. Looks ok though.

I probably have the silver V-less black grille lying around somewhere if you want it. As I said though, it just looks blatently as if something silver V-shaped has fallen off - not the cool non-standard look I suspect you're going for.

Cheers for the info Liam  :)

If that is the case, I will leave the the "V" alone and go down the lines of what you suggested and remove the whole thing. Will hunt down a piece of mesh and cheap grille to play with and see how it goes.
If you've got a spare grille, what you looking for it?

Cheers  :y

Hi,

Buying a pre-facelift Irmscher grille from ebay and doing things to it is much the easiest option if you're into that sort of thing.
There are usually a few on and available.

For an even easier option, try the even more plentiful aftermarket badge less option (some metal, some plastic) which just go straight on using the original mounting lugs/holes.

As is mentioned above, taking the siver 'V' off just leaves the silhouette of the shape and looks rather odd.
