Part no. ID for Air Shocks please anyone ?
« on: 26 March 2011, 13:59:33 »

Hi guys,

If anyone can access the EPC , could you help by giving me the part no. for air shocks to fit a 2000 (W reg.) 3.0  Facelift   Saloon.

I think there are 2 types Saloon & Estate. As my car is riding high at the rear , i am trying to eliminate that the Incorrect shocks have been fitted.

If both part No's can be supplied  I can match up to what is on the label  of mine

TIA ,     AL :y

Hi everyone,

Was given the part no's by Andy B (Thanks Andy)   but

They do not correspond to what is on the labels of my shocks.

being a PC dim-wit I can't post pictures on here :-[ :-[

But below is how the labels read:

                                                    GM    22245839

                                        9127829

                                        368135153

                                    13  07  09   08 17 .51

If anyone can help to find the part No. from this i would be grateful'

Could the part no. be somewhere else on the damper? although I have had a very good look . there are no other labels & can't see anything stamped.

Regards Al :y

I thought the level on a car with self levelling suspension was controlled by the level sensor :-/

The way I see it the wrong shock absorbers might cause a harsher or softer ride but wouldn't change the ride height.

The level sensor operates an air pump which inflates (or deflates) a bellows built into the damper to either extend or retract the overall length. That is how the ride height is controlled.

No bellows - no self levelling ..  :)

I fitted new self levelling dampers to my Elite last weekend (purchased from andyc  :)) so I am familiar with how they work.

My thought was that the OP may not have considered that the sensor (& air pump) will work to maintain the ride height regardless of what dampers are fitted.

I see it that way too.   But am trying to find out why the car is sitting high at the back.

Looking at all angles , so looking at what the difference is between the two types of self levelling shocks & the possibility that estate shocks are fitted in case to my saloon.  Anyone know what the difference is?

tomorrow am going to release the bottom shock bolts & see what height the car sits on springs only.  present height is 660mm front & 690mm rear.

OK. To avoid confusion.

Essex Big Al. Can you confirm that you have a plastic pipe going to the top of each damper?

Definatley self levelling   Small plastic pipe to each one held on by a small wire clip. Rubber "bellows" section in middle of each one.

Have already done the raise & lower test with lever detatched. Car raises up & down as switch is manually operated. Compressor at front under  wheelarch starts as required.  :y :y :y

So carrying on from yesterday, released shocks from bottom bolt on both sides , gave back of car a good bounce about then measured.
The car sits even higher but without the shocks connected .

rear n/s is 705mm    O/s  715mm      Crazy ! ! :o :o :o :o :o

having a re-think on this now. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Intriguing !!!

Don't know if this helps or hinders ...  2001 3.2 Elite Saloon. New rear shockers 7000 miles ago. Engine running, self levelling pump "finished" its business ... :)

Measured at the wheel arch vertically through the centre of the wheel.

F N/S = 675 mm
F O/S = 665 mm
R N/S = 675 mm
R O/S = 685 mm

Now those figures look very like your original figures ...... so what makes you think it's sitting "high" ??

 ;) ;)

660mm at front which seems to be LSC  height

Where as std elite is 675 at front  (I think)

Should the front & back not the same then ?

It just looks ugly compared to the front. gap between the tyre top & the wheel arch.

Car is on 17 VX std alloys   & 235 x 45 x 17 tyres

What we need is someone to measure an MV6 to see what they sit at  all round & compare to Elite sizes :y :y :y :y

Anyone handy with a tape  ;D ;D ;D
